If you’re based in London and haven’t already, I highly recommend getting tickets to Royal Ascot Tuesday 18th-Saturday 22nd of June or any other racing weekend you’re available this year! I won’t be able to make it this year and I’ll be in Montana with my family, but a big group of us booked tickets to Ascot for opening weekend back in May and it’s the PERFECT summer excuse to dress up, drink champagne, watch the races, and hopefully win!
Back in California I loved going the the races. This is like opening day in Del Mar & Santa Anita in Pasadena.. only better! For starters everyone dresses well. There’s a different caliber of dress codes dependent upon where you’re tickets are, but all in all, everyone makes the effort. For our tickets in Queen Anne’s enclosure everyone wore midi dresses, a form of heeled sandals and when in England, a fascinator…
For Opening Day at Ascot I stuck with a sleeved skirt/top combo from Zara, block heels from Gianvito Rossi, and a simple fascinator from Marks and Spencer. Karen Millen did a really nice job with their Ascot Collection this year — they sent me this blush spiral hat and this black tulle hat, both great options if you want something that’s more of a statement and more fashion forward. Otherwise you can try M&S, John Lewis, Debenham’s, or Fenwick to find something for more of a “one-time-wear”.
GETTING HERE | Travel wise you can take the train from Kensington and Olympia Straight to Ascot – duration about an hour.
FOOD & DRINK | You’re allowed to bring a bottle of champagne or sparking wine per person as well as picnic food, although there are plenty of places to buy drinks and food on site *vegan options too!
BETTING | I’m not banking on paying rent from the races but I do love betting for fun! You can see all of the horses before each race, place your bets inside with credit/debit or outside at the stands via cash payment. They have ATMS there if you need to take out money.
WHAT TO WEAR | If you’re wondering what to wear to Ascot/ Royal Ascot I’d shy on the conservative dressy side. A nice sundress, heels, and hat — I’ve linked some favorites below and also check out THIS POST if you haven’t already! I include a lot of dresses that are great for events, but you’ll also wear again in real life too.
