Iceland Itinerary Day 4: Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach

Overall, this entire trip was a 10/10 but the scenery of the fourth day was the most breath taking. If you’re fitting everything into a 3 night-4 day schedule like us, day 4 will have to start a bit early — but overall, this day in itself is 1000% worth the whole trip!

DAY 4: GLACIER LAGOON & DIAMOND BEACH

Glacier Lagoon | 30 minutes from Foss Hotel Glacier Lagoon

Hands down, Glacier Lagoon was the prettiest place I have ever seen. Without a doubt it’s worth the trip to Iceland in itself and not to be missed. Never have I experienced something so humbling and truly breathtaking. It’s impossible not to feel gratitude when you’re here — seeing seals frolic amongst the crystal clear icebergs and enormous blocks of ice. Leave the hotel by 8:30/9am to be sure you have enough time. We spent an hour here, although I could have stayed all day, mesmerized by the ice.

DIAMOND BEACH | 2 minutes across the road

Directly across the road is the famous Black sand beach that collects the ice berg and ice from the glacier. The crystal ice contrasted against the deep black sand is another landscape absolutely worth seeing. We spent about 30/45 minutes here but again could always stay longer. Horses and Waterfalls were one thing, but these Icebergs were like anything I had seen before. Don’t miss coming here even if it’s further away!

Fjaðrárgljúfur | 1 hour from Diamond Beach Back towards Airport

As you begin to make your way back to the airport, try to stop at this beautiful canyon. Unfortunately due to weather conditions and de-thawing the roads were closed and we were unable to see it, but all the more reason to return to Iceland one day!

VIK | 1 hour from Fjaðrárgljúfur and 2.5 hours to the airport

We made our way back to Vik, filling up with a quarter tank of gas, and picking up a few more snacks for a quick second trip and 30-minute “picnic” at SKOGAFOSS – our favorite waterfall of the trip.

KEF | Depart at 6pm (No earlier!)

Our flight back to London was at 6pm on WizzAir, and we truly used every minute down to the last second — We got to the airport at 5 (cutting it close) and had 5 minutes to spare once through security!

Overall, I know I’m a broken record, but everything about this trip was above any expectation and prettier than any photo. If you’re wanted to visit — book it! If you’ve been on the fence I 1000% recommend it! If you’re going, have the most amazing time!!
