Transitioning into Fall with 5 Key Staples

Caroline Constas Top (SIMILAR ON SALE!) | Levi jeans (Under $150!) | Gucci Mules | Rebecca Minkoff Bag | Maje Coat (Similar) | Ray Ban Sunglasses 50mm| Gold Bracelet from Amsterdam (Similar)

I had to take a last minute trip to New York to get my Visa all sorted out, but I’m back in London super excited to start my fashion journalism program at LCF next week. Being back in New York and getting a taste of London’s crisp air, has me so ready for fall. While it’s a bit premature to bring out my OTK boots and peacoat just yet, I’ve already started transitioning my wardrobe, swapping my shoes, and sharing my latest take on rearranging a closet for fall.

1. Swap the Sandals for Mules or Slides

With fall essentially here, it’s time to store away the sandals and step into fall in a new shoe. Mules are still 100% in this year, now in even more styles than ever. I’m still partial to the ultimate classic Gucci Mule (back in stock), but also have my eye on several others too. If you live somewhere that tends to get quite brisk, I definitely recommend a closed toe style. It’s more practical to wear with plummeting temps and is very transitional before boot season officially arrives. For those of you who’s fall is more of a figment of the imagination (aka me when I lived in LA), I’d consider adding an open-toed slide to your closet, particularly in suede. You’ll capture that same “fall feel”, but still remain weather appropriate if temps haven’t caught the memo that it’s time to transition seasons.

2.Break out the “mom” jeans

Fall weather = Denim weather, and right now “mom jeans” are still all the rage. As a girl who owns every color of skinny jeans, save those for OTK boot season and invest in something with a looser ankle and hem. These classic Levi’s will always be appropriate, plus they have a price tag under $150! It’s one of those pairs that is loved by EVERYONE, I’ll often go out and find myself matching with at least 2 of my friends!

3.Invest in a Little Black Bag

When it comes to handbags there are SO many good styles out right now, but before you get all trendy, check your closet and make sure your have at least one go-to, “Little Black Bag”. With both my ray bans and mules having hints of gold, I personally gravitate towards Black with Gold Hardware, but check your personal collection and see if you naturally wear more silver or gold, then start your search from there.

4.Go for a Bold Blouse

I am all for keeping the majority of my wardrobe “classic”, but come fall & winter, I find the majority of my pieces are quite basic. To keep things fun for fall, try going more bold than usual by adding a fun blouse into the mix. Statement sleeves are still a thing or you can opt for a fun print, color or both! This top is on sale in select Intermix stores (it sold out quickly online) but I found it is a different silhouette here and in the same style in black here. Also, mustard yellow is a HUGE color on the horizon this season. I just snagged this Free People top, included in my Bold Blouse roundup below!

5. Plan Ahead with a Peacoat

With temperatures quickly dropping here in London, I’m already planning ahead and adding my coat collection to my closet. Depending on where you live, it might not be quite time for a coat season just yet, but soon enough layering will be part of your daily routine. A quality coat is something you only need to invest in ever several years, so I’m rounding up several classics available at the moment.

What are you most looking forward to for fall?! I’m so excited temperatures have dropped in London so I can finally start wearing some of my favorite fall staples!

xx Erica
