Santa Monica, California
My daytime wardrobe is pretty much set. I have a handful of dresses that I cycle through on repeat, a few pairs of jeans and shorts, and more cocktail dresses than I care to admit. But when It comes to girls’ nights out, summer Sunday brunches, and the occasional date night, I found myself peering in my closet a bit uninspired. I often keep it simple with a classic combo of form flattering jeans and a cute blouse or top, but what about those scorching summer nights that beg to change things up? After cycling through the usual Maxis, a few dresses, and my go-to jumpsuit, I discovered a whole new love for the two piece set.
I first started seeing this style of two pieces while browsing online and shopping at few boutiques in Austin. Was it like a romper, a dress, a top? It went to the forefront of my mind, but I wasn’t fully sold. It was only when summer rolled around and I found myself needing a fool-proof outfit to wear to Vegas, out to dinners, also to brunch, and during the daytime that I found myself consistently thinking, “OK I actually need this”. One online shopping splurge later, this top and skirt arrived at my doorstep and ended up being even more flattering and versatile than I had originally imagined. Countless wears and memories later, it’s become my no-brainer pick for any fun summertime Occasion!
What originally was my biggest reservation, became my favorite feature. I actually love that it’s two pieces instead of one. When I wear it together most people compliment my “dress”, but because it’s a top + skirt combo, it opens to door to countless styling opportunities. More often than not I’ll style the set together. For brunch at Sonoma Wine Garden, I’ve paired it with this bucket bag, these neutral flatforms, and bold boho sunnies. In Vegas, I dressed it up with suede platform heels for dinner with my mom and best childhood friend at Lavo. And back in LA I swapped the skirt for flare jeans and added platform chunky heels for dinner at Pizzana in Brentwood with some of my favorite girls. I’ve yet to style the skirt solo yet but love the idea of wearing it with a simple white tank and strappy neutral sandals. Maybe something I’ll wear during the day tomorrow?!
What are your thoughts on this summer two piece set? If you’re looking to try out this breezy, beautiful combo, I’ve linked my exact look and lots of similar options for you! And if you’re a fan of this top it also comes in another floral print and deep navy blue that I’ve linked in the text and below too!
