I could have easily added on a few more days in Savannah after being beyond pleasantly surprised with our entire experience and stay. But next up on our Southern road trip was Charleston, S.C! After realizing the Montage Palmetto Bluff was only 30 minutes out of the way, we made a no-brainer spontaneous decision to detour our plans, and head straight to Palmetto Bluff for an afternoon of bellinis and rosé….I’ll start this post with the disclaimer that we did not actually stay here, however, had we booked our trip again, we would without a doubt add a stay! Savannah is only about 30 minutes south, so you could easily stay here and explore Savannah as a day trip, or do as we did and add it to the list on the way up to Charleston. Regardless of how you visit, trust me when I tell you, once you arrive at the Montage Palmetto Bluff you won’t want to leave!
From the moment you enter Palmetto Bluff everything is beyond beautiful. You’ll pass tree after tree draped with the most whimsical Spanish moss, and discover the ideal luxury version of Low Country. Both eager and excited for this next stop on our trip, we parked the car with the help of the friendly staff and set out to explore. Right off the bat, you’ll notice the classic southern architecture of the Main House where the check in desk, Lobby Lounge, Octagon Bar, and Jessamine are located. For most, these stunning grounds would be more than enough, but the Montage Property offers so much more. Just around the Main House lies the most beautiful Carolina cottages, completely embodying southern beauty and charm. Nestled between the cottages and the giant live oaks, was one of my favorite Montage buildings- the Somerset Chapel. I’ve always admired parks, trees, and any destination with natural scenery, but I don’t think I’ve ever visited a resort with so much peace and serenity.
Curious to discover the rest of the property, we headed through the main house towards the back lawn and pools… talk about a complete R&R dream! I SO wish we had booked a room, even to just to enjoy the pool, but nevertheless, we made ourselves right at home with drinks in hand from Fore & Aft perched up by the lagoon. I couldn’t have dreamt up a more ideal location to regroup, relax, and reflect on our trip. Even if you don’t splurge for a stay, I highly recommend grabbing a drink by this beautiful lagoon and soaking in the sunshine and sights during a beautiful spring/summer day. It was easily one of the high points from our entire experience and if you’re lucky you may even spot one of the Lagoon’s local Alligators like we did!
Beyond content with our bubbly sun session, we loaded up on the properties’ bikes to explore more of the property and head to the Riverhouse for dinner. Still in awe of the beautiful scenery, we pedaled past even more stunning homes and stumbled upon the most picturesque treehouse (calling our names to climb of course) then biked across the bridge towards the water. One of the things I loved most about the Montage was how vast the property expanded. Just when you think onr area couldn’t get any more beautiful, you’ll discover a whole other zone filled with restaurants, markets, suites, and new landscapes!
Passing an over the top corporate event being held on the lawn, we made our way to the dock to cool off, snapped a few sunset photos of another picturesque church, and took in the entire breathtaking setting before settling on the screened in porch to enjoy dinner. In true southern style we ordered the blackened flounder BLT then savored the Montage tradition of S’mores by the fire, post dinner! It was truly a highlight of our entire road trip experience that I not only recommend adding it as a MUST to your travel list, but also cannot wait to return to the property and enjoy it as a guest myself!
