We’ve almost hit the official the middle of winter and it’s finally starting to feel like it! I’m sure we’ve all had a solid fix of super cozy sweaters and perhaps some fluffy winter coats, but now that the new year has hit and I’m back in Los Angeles, my fashion focus has shifted towards tailored winter styles.
The trick to a tailored winter look is loosing a bit of the fluff. Swap your usual chunky sweater for a sleek tailored top as a solid starting point. From there pick your power piece. Is it a pair of wide legged fringe jeans? A patterned pant or embroidered dress? For me it’s a classic tweed skirt with just the right amount of winter color. Of course in winter temps a short skirt on its own will not always suffice, but a leg-baring hemline can easily be balanced with a textured, thigh-high boot or a pair of opaque tights.
Potentially the most essential part of a tailored winter look is a sleek, winter jacket. My personal coat collection has expanded over the years and I’ve found the most chic, put together option is a solid, structured wool or wool blend coat. The best ones tend to fall on the higher end of the budget, however a great coat will last years and years to come and many well made options are currently on sale.
Of course you can easily change up this tailored style up by enhancing or swapping out the color scheme. In the winter months it’s common to gravitate towards darker hues so I enhanced the darker vibe with a pop of color on my lips, but if you’re over subdued hues and looking for something brighter this tailored look could also easily be re-created in a camel, blush, or winter white palette.
