Afternoon Tea at the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills is one of my absolute favorite luxuries in Los Angeles. While my day to day life in LA isn’t always as glamorous, I certainly love treating myself now and then to some of these rare experiences available in Los Angeles—especially around the Holiday season when everything is twinkling with festive spirit. I first fell in love with this upscale afternoon ritual while studying abroad in London during my years at Pepperdine but my love of scones and the appreciation of high tea has stuck with me ever since.I’ve had my fair share of tea sandwiches and macaroons, both local and abroad, but can say from my many experiences the Peninsula Hotel really knows how to set the scene if you’re after an authentic, decadent tea experience. My order of choice at the Pen is the Royal Tea— this comes with a flute of bubbly to get in the proper sipping spirit followed by a dish of the sweetest strawberries and a generous dollop of chantilly creme. As you’re sipping on champs, sit back relax and enjoy the harpist who places at certain times throughout the afternoon. Just when you think your afternoon couldn’t get any sweeter a beautiful pot of tea and a delicate tea tower filled with savory and sweet treats arrives at your table. As a creature of habit, I always stick with a pot of English Breakfast topped off with a cube of brown sugar and dash of cream but the Peninsula Tea list is so extensive I’m sure any order won’t steer you wrong. The most picturesque part of tea is the tower and yes… it tastes as delicious as it looks. While afternoon tea is one of my favorite age-old social traditions it’s also a really good excuse to get a little dressed up! I’ve clearly loved all of the off-the-shoulder styles 2016 has brought us but cannot wait for 2017’s biggest trends— statement sleeves and bold earrings. I’ve never been the biggest jewelry girl for some strange reason, but absolutely love the power of a vibrant, bold earring especially for ringing in the New Year or really bringing an outfit together.  For me bold earrings take a lot of the maintenance out of outfit prep. You pick your one power piece, in this case the bold earring, and with a little pairing and color coding your outfit is simply complete. The same goes for the statement sleeve. It’s called statement for a reason and takes an otherwise simple look to an eye-catching level. I love subtle metallics and high-waisted pants for this time of year, but statement sleeves can also be styled with cropped flares, mini skirts and OTK boots, your classic denim/mule combo and truly whatever you feel like wearing them with. They’re next years’ “off the shoulder” and I’m already stocking up on sweaters, tops, dresses and beautiful blouses that possess this sought-after silhouette!

If you’re setting your sights on scones or a spot of afternoon tea I couldn’t recommend the Peninsula enough and if you’re ready to bump up your style-game for 2017 I’m linking my look, lots of statement sleeved styles and big, bold earrings below!

xx Erica
